Certification is not a badge at the end of a process. It changes what an organisation can prove about itself, and it shows up in how the operation is run — and in the accounts.
01 — What certification demonstrates
What a certified organisation can show
Certification within an approved scope means an independent Certification Body has examined the evidence and confirmed that the organisation meets the applicable SEI requirements. In practice, that organisation can demonstrate:
01
Legal and governance integrity
It operates with the required authorisations, knows the rules that apply to it and can show who is accountable for what.
02
Horse wellbeing under control
Care, workload, health, handling and emergency response are documented, monitored and acted upon — not left to custom.
03
Measured performance
Energy, water, waste, emissions and incidents are quantified year on year, so improvement can be shown rather than asserted.
04
Claims it can defend
Public statements about sustainability and horse welfare stay within the approved scope and are backed by assessed evidence.
02 — Why it pays off
Responsibility that shows up in the accounts
Working through the Standard is not a paperwork exercise. Most of what it asks for is what a well-run equestrian operation already needs.
01
Resource efficiency
Measuring energy, water, feed, bedding and waste is usually the first time an operation sees where its money goes.
02
Risk under control
Emergency planning, biosecurity, incident records and competent staff reduce the events that cost most when they happen.
03
Healthier horses, longer careers
Workload, rest, preventive care and welfare oversight protect the asset the whole operation depends on.
04
Procurement and supply chain
Knowing who supplies what, and on what terms, makes both cost and reputation easier to defend.
05
Credible communication
Assessed evidence lets you make sustainability and welfare claims that sponsors, owners and regulators can check.
06
Long-term resilience
Public scrutiny of equestrian activity is increasing. Demonstrated responsibility is what keeps a social licence to operate.
07
Protecting your assets
Horses, people, facilities and equipment are valuable assets. Preventive management protects their value and reduces avoidable costs.
08
Operational consistency
Clear procedures, responsibilities and records make daily operations more reliable, efficient and easier to manage.
