How the Sustainable Equestrian Initiative collects, uses and protects personal information when you use this website, the SEI Community and the SEI Online Reporting Tool.
Last updated 24 September 2026
This site is provided by the Sustainable Equestrian Initiative (“SEI”, “we” or “us”), established in the Netherlands. This policy covers how we treat personal information that we collect and use on or through this website, the SEI Community, the SEI Online Reporting Tool and other related services where this policy is linked in the footer (together, the “Services”).
This Privacy Policy forms part of our Terms of Use. By accessing or using the Services, you agree to be bound by both.
SEI collects two types of information: information that lets us know who you are (“Personally Identifiable Information”) and information that does not by itself identify a specific individual (“Non-personally Identifiable Information”).
You can browse this website without telling us who you are. However, when you register an SEI Community Account, register an organisation for certification, subscribe to our newsletter or contact us, we ask for information about yourself — such as your name, e-mail address, country and the organisation you represent.
We may also collect further information when you take part in the Services: when you build your profile, when you post content, comment or join groups in the SEI Community, when you complete learning modules or challenges, when you submit evidence through the SEI Online Reporting Tool, or when you give us feedback. Content you publish in the Community is visible to other users and, where the Community is open to read, to visitors who are not signed in.
Providing data is optional on your part; however, not all features are available if you choose not to provide it.
We automatically receive and record information on our server logs from your browser, including your IP address, the page you came from, the page you go to next, browser type and language, and the date and time of your request. This information is analysed on an aggregated basis. We may use third-party analytics services to collect and analyse this data.
We use Personally Identifiable Information to provide the Services to you; to operate your account and your organisation’s certification process; to fulfil your requests; to improve our services; to support you; to give you updates and notices about the Services, this Privacy Policy and our terms; and to contact you where necessary. We use your e-mail address to respond to your questions, to notify you of material changes to our policies or this website, and to send communications you have asked to receive.
We use Non-personally Identifiable Information to diagnose problems with our servers and software, to administer the Services, and to understand how the Services are used.
SEI does not display targeted advertising and does not operate advertising networks on the Services.
SEI may set and access cookies on your device. A cookie is a small file containing a string of characters that is sent to your device and stored when you visit a website. Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. You can reset your browser to refuse all cookies or to tell you when a cookie is being sent; if you refuse cookies, you will not be able to sign in or take full advantage of the Services.
We use cookies to keep you signed in, to remember your preferences, and to help us understand traffic and the use of features on the Services. We may also allow certain analytics services and applications used on the Services to place cookies that measure performance, such as traffic and click-throughs.
SEI does not rent or sell personal information about you. We share it only to provide the products or services you have requested, when we have your permission, or in the following circumstances:
This website may link to sites developed by people over whom SEI exercises no control. Those sites may set their own cookies, collect data or ask for personal information.
We limit access to personal information to the people who reasonably need it to provide the Services or to do their jobs. Your information is stored on servers located in the European Union. We treat data as an asset that must be protected, and use encryption, passwords, access control and physical security to protect it against unauthorised access and disclosure.
No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Third parties may unlawfully intercept transmissions, and other users may misuse personal information they collect from the Community. Although we work hard to protect your privacy, we cannot promise that personal information or private communications will always remain private. Because e-mail is not a secure medium, we ask that you do not send sensitive information to us by e-mail.
This Privacy Policy addresses only the use and disclosure of information we collect from you. It does not apply to organisations that SEI does not own or control, nor to people SEI does not employ or manage. The Services may include applications or content from third parties that carry out their own tracking; SEI accepts no responsibility for those activities and you are subject to those third parties’ privacy policies where applicable.
The Services are intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect or maintain information from anyone under the age of 16, and no part of the Services is designed to attract anyone under 16.
We may amend this Privacy Policy at any time by posting the amended terms on this page. Revised terms take effect seven days after they are posted unless the amendment states otherwise. We will notify you of significant changes in the way we treat personal information by sending a notice to the e-mail address registered to your account or by placing a notice on this website. If you do not agree to the changes, you may close your account by requesting deletion by e-mail to [email protected], from the e-mail address registered to the account.
If you have questions, concerns or suggestions about this policy, write to [email protected].
